Unit cost up to ₹3 lakh; subsidy 50% up to ₹1.5 lakh (SC/ST) or 30% up to ₹90,000 (general and special category); family income below ₹2 lakh (SC/ST) / ₹1.5 lakh (others), no limit for widows and women with disability; age 18–55. Is Udyogini a national scheme? What bank “Udyogini” pages mean

No. Udyogini is run by the Karnataka State Women Development Corporation, so the subsidy is only for women living in Karnataka. Pages from banks and lenders (Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital, L&T Finance, Godrej Capital, Paisabazaar and others) that say “Udyogini loan up to ₹3 lakh from all banks” are general explainers or lead forms for their own business loans; they do not give the KSWDC subsidy. In Karnataka the loan comes from the bank branch the district committee picks after you apply on Seva Sindhu. If you live elsewhere, look at PMEGP (15–35% subsidy, all India), Mudra or our women business loan finder.

Worked examples

Example 1 (SC woman, Kalaburagi): Lakshmi, 35, family income ₹1.8 lakh, opens a ₹3 lakh tailoring and embroidery unit. Subsidy 50% = ₹1,50,000 (the cap). The bank lends ₹3 lakh; once the subsidy is credited she repays ₹1.5 lakh. At 11% for 5 years her EMI is about ₹3,261 (₹6,523 if charged on the full ₹3 lakh).

Example 2 (general woman, Mysuru): a 29-year-old with family income ₹1.4 lakh sets up a ₹2.5 lakh beauty parlour. Subsidy 30% = ₹75,000; loan left ₹1.75 lakh; EMI about ₹3,805 at 11% for 5 years. If her family earned ₹1.6 lakh she would be over the limit, unless she is a widow or has a disability.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Udyogini scheme national or only for Karnataka? Udyogini is a Karnataka scheme run by the Karnataka State Women Development Corporation (KSWDC). Many websites call it a national scheme or say “all banks give ₹3 lakh under Udyogini”; that is not correct. Banks and lenders such as Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital or Paisabazaar only publish explainer pages; outside Karnataka there is no Udyogini subsidy. Women in other states can use PMEGP (15–35% subsidy) or Mudra loans.

What is the Udyogini scheme subsidy amount? SC/ST women get 50% of the unit cost, up to ₹1,50,000. General and special category women (widows, destitute, women with disability) get 30%, up to ₹90,000. Unit cost is up to ₹3 lakh. Some sources differ (one 2026 report says 75% up to ₹2 lakh for SC/ST; an old district page says 20% up to ₹7,500), so confirm with the WCD office.

What is the maximum loan amount under Udyogini? The maximum unit cost covered is ₹3 lakh, so the Udyogini loan is up to ₹3 lakh (minimum about ₹1 lakh for SC/ST; some reports say ₹50,000). A bank can lend more under its own rules, but the subsidy is worked out on ₹3 lakh only.

What is the Udyogini interest rate, and how is the EMI calculated? The scheme does not fix a rate; the bank charges its normal rate for small loans (often around 10–12%). Some sites call it an interest-free loan, which we could not confirm. Because KSWDC pays the subsidy to the bank, you mostly repay the loan minus subsidy. EMI = loan × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), with r the monthly rate. On ₹1.5 lakh at 11% for 5 years it is about ₹3,261.

Which banks give the Udyogini loan? Commercial banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks and KSFC branches in Karnataka that the district committee sends your file to. You do not apply at a bank first; you apply to KSWDC on Seva Sindhu, and the bank is chosen during selection. Private finance companies do not give the Udyogini subsidy.

Who is eligible for the Udyogini scheme? Women who are permanent residents of Karnataka, aged 18 to 55 (the 2026-27 notice says 21 to 55), with family income below ₹1.5 lakh a year (₹2 lakh for SC/ST). Widows and women with disability have no income limit. You must attend EDP training before the loan is released.

What documents are needed for Udyogini? Aadhaar, ration card, caste certificate (SC/ST), income certificate, age proof, Karnataka residence proof, bank passbook, passport photos, quotation or project report, and widow or disability certificate if it applies. The EDP training certificate is added before the loan is released.
