Free estimate, not approval. PMKSY-PDMC: 55% small and marginal, 45% others, up to 5 ha, on the lower of your cost and the state unit cost. Checked 13 Oct 2026.
Worked example: 2 acres of drip
A small farmer gets a quote of ₹1.2 lakh for drip on 2 acres (0.81 ha). At 55%, the subsidy is ₹66,000 and the farmer pays ₹54,000, provided the quote is within the state unit cost. If the state also gives a 25% top-up, the subsidy becomes ₹96,000 and the farmer pays ₹24,000. (The ₹1.2 lakh quote is only an example; your quote depends on crop spacing and the system.)

Unit costs depend on crop spacing. Older guidelines put drip unit costs between about ₹21,643 and ₹1,12,237 per hectare (wide spacing like fruit trees is cheaper; close spacing like vegetables costs more). States revise these, so ask your block or district agriculture office for the current table.
Who can apply
- Farmers with their own or leased land (with a valid lease)
- Farmer groups, FPOs, cooperatives and SHGs
- You need a water source (well, borewell, canal or farm pond)
How to apply
- Apply on your state agriculture or horticulture portal (micro-irrigation section), or at the block office.
- Keep land records, Aadhaar, bank passbook, photo and a water-source proof ready.
- Pick an empanelled micro-irrigation company and get its quote and design.
- Wait for pre-sanction before installing. Systems put in earlier usually do not qualify.
- After installation the department inspects it and pays the subsidy, often directly to your bank account or to the company.
Drip irrigation subsidy: frequently asked questions
How much subsidy is given on drip irrigation? Under PMKSY Per Drop More Crop, small and marginal farmers get 55% and other farmers get 45% of the cost, on up to 5 hectares. Some states add a top-up, so the total can be 80% to 100% in a few states.
Who is a small or marginal farmer for this subsidy? A marginal farmer has up to 1 hectare and a small farmer up to 2 hectares (about 5 acres). Above that the 45% rate applies.
Is the subsidy on my full bill? No. It is worked out on your actual cost or the state unit cost, whichever is lower. If the company charges more than the unit cost, you pay the extra.
Is sprinkler subsidy the same as drip? Yes, both come under Per Drop More Crop at the same 55% and 45% rates, but sprinkler unit costs are lower than drip.
Can I get drip subsidy again on the same land? Usually not for several years. Many states allow a repeat subsidy on the same land only after 7 to 10 years. Check your state rule.
How is drip subsidy paid? After the system is installed and inspected, the subsidy is released through DBT to your bank account or adjusted with the supplier, depending on the state.
