Polyhouse subsidy: frequently asked questions

How much subsidy is given for a polyhouse? Under MIDH the government pays 50% of the cost norm, for up to 4,000 sq m per farmer. For a 1,000 sq m naturally ventilated polyhouse at ₹1,050 per sq m, that is about ₹5.25 lakh. Many states add a top-up, so the final rate can be 70% to 90% in some states.

What is the cost of a polyhouse per sq m? MIDH 2025 norms, as reported, are about ₹1,200 per sq m up to 500 sq m, ₹1,050 up to 1,008 sq m and ₹1,000 above that for a naturally ventilated polyhouse; fan & pad polyhouses are about ₹1,500 to ₹1,800; a tubular shade net house is ₹710. Hilly and North-East areas get 15% more. Your state may use a different figure.

Polyhouse subsidy for 1 acre: how much? 1 acre is about 4,047 sq m, just above the 4,000 sq m cap. At ₹1,000 per sq m the subsidy is about ₹20 lakh at 50% on a ₹40 lakh norm cost, and your share is about ₹20.5 lakh (the extra 47 sq m is at your cost).

Is the subsidy on my actual bill? No. Subsidy is worked out on the government cost norm or your actual cost, whichever is lower. If your supplier charges more than the norm, you pay the extra.

Can I get a bank loan for a polyhouse? Yes. Most banks give agri term loans for polyhouses, and in many states the subsidy is credit-linked and goes into the loan account after inspection. You can also look at Agriculture Infrastructure Fund interest subvention for eligible projects.

What about the NHB polyhouse scheme? The National Horticulture Board funds bigger commercial projects (usually above 2,500 sq m) as credit-linked back-ended subsidy. Small farmers usually apply under MIDH through the state horticulture department.
