In Karnataka a BPL (PHH) ration card gets 10 kg of rice per person every month: 5 kg under the National Food Security Act and 5 kg more under the state’s Anna Bhagya guarantee (given as rice again since February 2025, after cash of ₹170 per person earlier)*. A family is not BPL if anyone is a government/PSU employee or income-tax payer, owns a car (except a taxi or tractor for living), or (in villages) owns more than 3 hectares of dry land*. Income above about ₹1.2 lakh a year usually gets an APL card*.
