Under PM-KUSUM the central government pays 30% of the cost of a solar pump and the state pays at least 30%, so you pay about 40%. In the North-East, hill states and island UTs the central share is 50%, so you pay about 20%. A bank can lend part of your share. Check the 2026 status first, because the first phase of the scheme is ending.

Free estimate, not approval. PM-KUSUM: central 30% (50% in NE, hill and island areas) plus state 30% of the benchmark or tender cost, whichever is lower. Checked 13 Oct 2026.
Worked example: тВ╣3 lakh solar pump
Say the benchmark cost of the pump in your state is тВ╣3 lakh (only an example; the real figure depends on pump size and your state tender). The centre pays тВ╣90,000 (30%) and the state тВ╣90,000 (30%), so your share is тВ╣1.2 lakh. If a bank lends 30% of the cost (тВ╣90,000), you pay only тВ╣30,000 upfront and repay the loan later. In a hill state the centre pays тВ╣1.5 lakh and your share is тВ╣60,000.

PM-KUSUM solar pump: frequently asked questions
How much subsidy is given on a solar pump under PM-KUSUM? The centre gives 30% and the state at least 30%, so the subsidy is about 60% and you pay about 40%. In North-East, hill and island areas the centre gives 50%, so you pay about 20%.
