How the checker works

  • Both limits count. If investment and turnover point to different categories, the higher category applies.
  • Investment is the written-down value of plant, machinery and equipment in your last income tax return. Land, building, furniture and fittings are not counted; pollution-control, R&D and industrial-safety equipment are excluded. A new business uses the purchase value without GST.
  • Turnover excludes exports and is taken from your GST returns and ITR.
  • Moving up: you keep the non-tax benefits of your earlier category for 3 years. Moving down: only when you are below both limits of your current category, from 1 April of the next financial year.
