Free estimate, not approval. PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), Ministry of Food Processing Industries: 35% credit-linked capital subsidy on the eligible project cost (plant & machinery + technical civil work up to 30%; land and rented shed excluded), maximum ₹10 lakh per unit; own share at least 10%. Groups: 35% up to ₹3 crore for common infrastructure. SHG members: ₹40,000 seed capital. Rules checked on 13 Oct 2026.

Worked example: ₹18 lakh flour mill
Machinery costs ₹12 lakh and technical civil work ₹4 lakh, so the eligible cost is ₹16 lakh (civil work is 25%, under the 30% limit). Working capital of ₹2 lakh makes the total project ₹18 lakh. PMFME subsidy is 35% of ₹16 lakh = ₹5,60,000. The owner puts in 10% = ₹1,60,000 and the bank lends ₹16,40,000. At 10% for 7 years the EMI is about ₹27,226 a month; once the subsidy is adjusted the loan falls to ₹10,80,000 and the EMI to about ₹17,929. Need the numbers for the bank? PMFME eligibility
- Age 18 or above; at least 8th pass in most states’ guidelines.
- Only one person per family (applicant, spouse and children).
- The unit must process, make, pack or preserve food products. Existing units can upgrade; new units are accepted in most states.
- Your district’s ODOP (One District One Product) gets priority, but non-ODOP units can also apply.
- You must take a bank loan (the subsidy is credit-linked) and put in at least 10%.
Documents for PMFME
- Aadhaar, PAN and photograph
- Bank statements of the last 6 months
- Quotations for machinery and an estimate for civil work
- Proof of the unit’s premises (ownership or rent agreement)
- Udyam / FSSAI registration if the unit already runs
- Detailed project report (your District Resource Person helps free of cost)
How to apply online
- Pick your product (your district’s ODOP gets priority) and get quotes for machinery and any civil work.
- Register on pmfme.mofpi.gov.in under “Individual / Micro enterprise” and fill in the application with Aadhaar, PAN and bank details.
- A District Resource Person (DRP) is assigned to you free of cost. They help you prepare the detailed project report (DPR) and pick a bank.
- The district committee recommends your application to the bank. The bank appraises the DPR and sanctions the loan.
- You put in at least 10% of the project cost. After the loan is disbursed, the bank claims the 35% subsidy and adjusts it in your loan account.

PMFME: frequently asked questions
How much subsidy is given under PMFME? Individual food processing units get a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the eligible project cost, up to ₹10 lakh per unit. FPOs, SHGs and cooperatives get 35% up to ₹3 crore for common infrastructure. SHG members can get ₹40,000 each as seed capital.
What is the maximum loan under PMFME? There is no fixed loan limit; the cap is on the subsidy. The subsidy reaches its ₹10 lakh maximum at an eligible project cost of about ₹28.6 lakh. Bigger projects can still apply, but the subsidy stays at ₹10 lakh.
What counts in the PMFME project cost? Plant and machinery plus technical civil work, with civil work limited to 30% of the eligible cost. Land and a rented or leased shed are not counted. Working capital can be part of your bank loan but gets no subsidy.
How much do I have to put in myself? At least 10% of the eligible project cost. The bank lends the rest. Putting in more lowers your loan and EMI.
Who is eligible for PMFME? Anyone 18 or older running or starting a micro food processing unit. Most guidelines ask for 8th pass. Only one person per family (applicant, spouse, children) can get it. ODOP products get preference, and new units are accepted in most states.
Is PMFME still open in 2026? PMFME was kept valid until 30 September 2026, and that period has ended. The ministry has proposed a 2026-31 extension with revised norms, but it had not been notified as of 13 October 2026. Check the portal or your District Resource Person for whether new applications are being accepted.
PMFME or PMEGP: which is better? PMEGP gives 15–35% subsidy on projects up to ₹50 lakh for any manufacturing or service unit. PMFME is only for food processing but counts machinery and civil work at 35% for everyone, plus free DPR help. Check both calculators for your project.
