Free estimate, not an approval. Cost norms per MT from the MIDH Operational Guidelines (April 2025), Annexure V: up to 5,000 MT — Type-1 civil ₹9,600, Type-1 civil + PEB ₹12,000, Type-2 ₹12,000 (MIDH, through the State Horticulture Mission); 5,001–20,000 MT — NHB rates that step down by capacity band. Subsidy: credit-linked, back-ended, 35% of eligible cost in general areas and 50% in North East and Himalayan states, TSP / scheduled areas, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep. Add-on technology for Type-1 counted up to ₹50 lakh. Rules verified 8 Oct 2026.
Example: 2,000 MT cold storage
A potato trader in Agra plans a 2,000 MT multi-chamber (Type-2) cold store. Norm: 2,000 × ₹12,000 = ₹2.4 crore. Subsidy at 35% = ₹84 lakh. With a 25% own margin (₹60 lakh) he needs a ₹1.8 crore term loan; once the ₹84 lakh subsidy is adjusted, the EMI on the balance ₹96 lakh over 7 years at 10% is about ₹1.59 lakh a month. In Assam or Uttarakhand the subsidy would be ₹1.2 crore.

Frequently asked questions
How much subsidy is given for cold storage? 35% of the eligible project cost in general areas and 50% in North East and Himalayan states, TSP / scheduled areas, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep. It is credit-linked and back-ended — paid into your bank loan account after the store is built and inspected.
What is the cost of a 1,000 MT cold storage per the government norm? The norm is ₹9,600 per MT for a Type-1 civil store (₹96 lakh for 1,000 MT) and ₹12,000 per MT with a PEB structure or as a Type-2 multi-chamber store (₹1.2 crore). Subsidy at 35% is ₹33.6 lakh or ₹42 lakh.
MIDH or NHB — where do I apply? Up to 5,000 MT: MIDH, through the State Horticulture Mission. 5,001 to 20,000 MT: National Horticulture Board, online at nhb.gov.in. In the North East, NHB covers stores above 1,000 MT.
Can I get the subsidy without a bank loan? No. The subsidy is credit-linked: you need a term loan from a bank or financial institution, and the subsidy is adjusted against that loan.
Is the subsidy on my actual cost or the norm? On whichever is lower. If your project costs more than the norm, subsidy is worked out on the norm; if it costs less, on your actual cost.
Can I combine it with the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund? Yes, AIF gives 3% interest subvention on loans up to ₹2 crore and can be combined with state or central subsidies. Check whether AIF is still accepting applications before you plan on it.
